from John Beardsley and blogged at M’Kayla’s Korner: “Since there is no Biblical evidence that any prophet, priest, or apostle ever dealt with anything remotely related to buried or repressed emotions or memories, then shouldn’t one question why this is so if inner healing is the big truth that its practitioners say it is?”
Exactly.
Does Our Inner Self Need Healing? The Bible does not teach that our inner self needs “healing.” The Bible does say, however, that we need to turn away from our sin (REPENT) and sin no more, and be TRANSFORMED by having our MINDS RENEWED with the Word of God.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
THEN you will know what is God’s will. You will not be chained to your past patterns, mistakes, weaknesses or hurts.
I believe it can be helpful to understand the areas in which we are influenced by the past; past hurts, past sins. Some people have tragic childhoods or traumatic events in their past, but we do not hold on to the past as an excuse, or seek some fantastical practice to erase the past. We renew our minds by knowing God’s nature and promises as written in his Word. Then we step forward into His will for us, by His grace and by His power.
Isn’t it sad that the popular authors of today, seen in Christian bookstores, rarely if ever, talks about the need for repenting.
Repentance does seem to be an unpopular topic among some authors, speakers, etc. Some people are confused and think that calling attention to one’s need to repent is “unloving,” but our Lord tells us it is His kindness that leads us to repentance. A beautiful kindness which makes a way for us to return to Him. Otherwise we would be kidding ourselves to think we can pretend our sin does not exist/ wish it away and think we can fellowship with a Holy God.
…”calling attention to one’s need to repent is “unloving”‘… Agreed. To make this even worse of a lack of understanding is the misconception that to repent means to apologize, apologize, apologize (to God)! So YES, we should be sorry that we messed up but repentance only comes when can finally walk away from habitually doing that sin – when we can TURN from it.
Mess up again? God’s ready for that. But again, ya gotta TURN away from that act of sinfulness. No problems though, Jesus’ yoke is a very light-weight yoke and any believer in Him can stand the workload.
